This week we visited 3 areas that highlighted the ecology of  our area, and how we interact with it.

We visited The Jamaica Bay Wildlife refuge, Alley Pond Conservation center, and the Newtown Creek waste water treatment plant.

At the Jamaica Bay, we learnt how the wildlife refuge is used by birds on their way down from the arctic to refuel, and find fresh water. At Alley pond we learnt how NYS is actually reforesting, and the amount of acres covered by trees has increased four fold in the past 100 years.  And Lastly at Newtown Creek we saw how our used rain and toilet water is cleaned and the clean water put back into the rivers around NYC, and the solid materials turned into fertilizer and used to cover landfills
