Goals and Objectives: Students will learn about a variety of professions within the culinary field and the options available for culinary education. Among other professionals, students will meet entrepreneurs, chefs, a nutritionist, restaurant owners, farmers market organizers, educators, bakers, and a food photographer. Students will work to improve skills including asking questions (formal v. informal interviewing) and making observations. Students will learn about and practice blog writing, caption writing, and review writing.
Activities: Tour of Butter Beans and Q&A with CEO and Chef; Tour of Amy’s Bread and Q&A with owner and production manager; Lunch at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park; Eataly visit; tour of Natural Culinary Institute, tour of Greenmarket at Union Square; explore food trucks and eat a lunch from food trucks; tour of Institute of Culinary Education; tour of food photography studio; panel of speakers event at TRCS
