EQUESTRIAN NYC
Horseback Riding is the sport of sitting on the back of a horse while controlling it’s movements (Wordnet Web, Princeton). But Horseback Riding isn’t the only sole purpose of Horses. Horses are used nationally to perform various different rigorous tasks, one of which is pulling carriages in New York City. During the Rensizzle of 2012, the Horseback Riding academic group explored not only the sport of Horseback Riding, but the controversial debate of Horse Carriages in New York City. The group interviewed Central Park Carriage Drivers and a Director of Governmental Affairs from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). They also went to explore horses on a 1-on-1 personal level at a Jamaica Bay Riding Academy. The group experienced riding and learning how to groom and care for horses.
