Nature in New York
Renay Moran
We had a great week, and are working on figuring out how to upload our beautiful slide-show! Check back…
The Nature Group explored three different parks in New York City. We traveled to 3 boroughs: Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx. Through outdoor exploration, data collection and hands-on fieldwork, students have begun to develop an understanding of some of the pressing issues facing our urban woodlands. Students loved spending time outdoors while exploring just a handful of nature’s preserves in our own city.
Monday: Trip to Alley Pond Park, Queens, for a hike in wooded trails rumored to be the route George Washington took while visiting Long Island!
Tuesday: Trip to Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center, Bronx, for Restoring the Urban Forest program.
Wednesday: Storyteller Jonathan Kruk gets us in the Halloween mood with “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”
Thursday: Trip to Central Park, Manhattan, for the Landmark Scavenger Hunt.
Friday: We work on our brochures highlighting all of these amazing sites.
