Goals and Objectives._

The students will be able to:

• Experience scale of actual structures. Feel vibrations and other structural phenomena.
• Experience stability concerns for buildings.
• Apply the observed properties to the design of a structure.
• Identify structural components that make the aircraft carrier strong.
• Identify components of balance in an aircraft.
• Build a structure from non-standard materials in order to observe areas of strength and weaknesses

Monday, October 21, 2013	BROOKLYN BRIDGE	Introduction to Bridges. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge Reading and interpreting various plaques that are on the Bridge. Looking at the structure of the bridge.
Tuesday, October 22, 2013	THE LIBERTY SCIENCE CENTER	Attending the SKYSCAPERS exhibit Looking at the history of skyscrapers
Wednesday, October 23, 2013	Building Paper Bridges	Talking about what structures make a bridge stronger Using these techniques to strong paper bridges that can stand weight.
Thursday, October 24, 2013	THE INTREPID AIR & SPACE MUSEUM	Looking at exhibitions that explain the evolution of different aircrafts
Friday, October 25, 2013	Building Dome Ceilings	Looking at examples of the Dome Ceiling in the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station by Rafael Gustavino Moreno. Building dome ceilings out of crackers and frosting.
