Welcome to the Songwriting Lil Sizzle Page!
Last Wednesday, October 28th, ten third and fourth grade students came together to write songs!!!! For 3 days, we wrote our own songs, worked with an award winning songwriter, and performed our pieces for our Cluster One peers.
First we explored, why people write songs.
We also listened to our favorite songs and analyzed patterns we discovered.
Next we picked a topic we wanted to write about, and wrote all that we knew about the topic.
Above is an example of some of the writing that took place.
Next, we charted our words so that we could chart out the pitches to look at melody patterns.
The 4 pictures above were taken at Nola Studios in Manhattan. At Nola Studios we worked with professional songwriter, Michael Mott on the songs we created. Each of us brought our song charts, and sang our melodies to Michael. Michael worked with each songwriter on the tone, style, and tempo of his/her song. Every songwriter came away inspired and with a new direction to take their songs.
On Friday, back at Renaissance, we gathered around the piano to practice our songs for our presentation, Halloween costumes and all.
In 3 days we wrote 8 songs and performed them all at the Lil Sizzle Presentation. We are very proud of the work we produced, and we hope we will be able to record these songs someday. Here are 5 videos of the group performing the songs of our talented songwriters:
